Welcome to my BRAND NEW teacher blog.
In this first blog post I am going to introduce myself, share my story, and tell you where we will be going throughout this journey together.
Where it all began
I started teaching five years ago in Waco, Texas. You may be thinking how did I end up in Texas if I am from Oregon? After college I wanted an adventure. I wanted to get out of my state and travel somewhere I had never been to before. I chose Texas because of the heat and the culture. Boy did I get both. Texas was a great adventure but after that first year I was missing my family and so I decided to come back to the Pacific Northwest.
I spent the next two years teaching second grade at a small Christian school in Washington state. The students I had over these two years made be realize how much of a delight teaching can be. We laughed, we cried, and we had a TON of fun.
After two years I decided to move back to a public school classroom. I have spent the last two years teaching grade 3-5 in Oregon state. Both of these years have been 100% online for me. I had to relearn engagement strategies and how to get students to learn through so many distractions. It was a enlightening experience and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
This last year I also received my masters degree from Wester Governors University. I spent the last 9 months learning new and exciting ways to not only engage students online but how to be an effective teacher as well.
